HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST ARRESTED IN ABUJA

Human rights activist and Blogger, Dorathy Amanze, is in custody of the Abuja Enviromental Department at Area 3, for taking pictures. Dorathy Amanze who lives in Gaduwa Estate was at her Estate when she saw people running helter skelter and not knowing what was happening decided to take pictures and video what was happening. Suddenly the task force comprising of police, Roadsafety, Civil Defense and some workers of the Abuja Enviromental board descended on Dorathy and her friends. Her Personal Assistant Evelyn and Faith, her adopted daughter, were attacked and beaten, their phones were confiscated and they were taken to the office of Abuja Enviromental Department when over 100 people are locked up in a small room that served as a mobile court.
They were arrested about 10:25am and they are still in custody waiting for the magistrate who Abuja Enviromental said would come by 2pm. He has not arrived and we don’t know whether he would come.
Most of the people arrested by the Taskforce were injured, obviously from being chased and from being beaten up. Some of the fuel seize from the boys hawking fuel which is supposed to be evidence were being hidden by the Abuja Enviromental Staff and members of the Taskforce.
After introducing myself to the members of the Abuja Enviromental Board, I informed them that she was my colleague and just took pictures. One of the staff who refused to tell me his name told me she was arrogant and refused to apologize and delete the video she took with the phone. They said if she writes an apology letter and delete the videos on her phone she would be released. Dorathy refused sighting she hasn’t done anything wrong by taking video in her neighborhood of Gaduwa Estate. Her lawyers have since arrived at Abuja Enviromental waiting for the magistrate who isn’t forth coming.
