Emir of Kano, Mohammadu Sanusi II, denies allegations of sheltering abducted Ese in his palace

Claims that the Emir of Kano, Mohammadu Sunusi II, sheltered the 17-year-old girl, Ese Oruru who was allegedly kidnapped from Bayelsa State by one Yunusa has been refuted by the Emir.
Sanusi’s denial follows claims by the Zone 1 Police Command, Rabilu Ringim that the teenager was on her way to the Police Headquarters in Abuja to re-unite with her family in Bayelsa State.
The Emir while speaking at a press conference in his palace, said he got to know that the girl was still in Kano when journalists from the BBC called on him while he was in South Africa.
The Emir expressed surprise when he saw online stories alleging that he ordered that the girl be kept in captivity in his palace.
Sanusi said, “To my utter surprise since from the time we ordered that the girl be taken to her parents in Bayelsa through AIG Zone 1 office, we didn’t hear anything about her. Just for us to now start hearing all kinds of stories that we are keeping her in our custody. This is injustice of the highest order,
“I am therefore giving an order that an investigation should immediately commence with the AIG office and know what was the position of things since that time we ordered for her repatriation to her parents.”
“Since August last year, the District Head of Kura came to the palace with a young girl of about 15 years, alongside with somebody from the area whom we were told was married to him after she was converted to Islam."
“I ordered for her immediate repatriation to her parents who were said to be in Bayelsa State. I ordered the Kano State Shariah Commission to liaise with the Assistant Inspector General ( AIG) Zone 1 to assist in taking her back to her parents in Bayelsa, through the AIG who oversees Bayelsa axis, for her safety.”
The Emir stated that he asked for police intervention because the girl was said to have expressed fear that her parents could harm her upon her return.
He said, “In Islam, she has no right to just go ahead and decide things for herself. She is still young. She is not mature enough. And nowhere in Islam where such young girls can just make up their mind and give their hands in marriage just like that. It is not permitted in Islam. That is why we said she must be taken back to her parents.”

Five female teenagers and a young lady have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command over an alleged ‘fetish’ sex trade with one Alhaji Burkar Hassan.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the arrest of the teenage girls and the unidentified young lady, said they confessed they were given N10, 000 each for the night.
According to Daily Post, Kalu said there had been suspicions over the illicit sex business and fears that it could be fetish as the teenage female sex hawkers were subjected to special spirit bath after sex bouts.’
“The arrest of the girls took place last week following a tip-off on their activities around Warri Motor Park during nightfall,” Kalu added.
Mother of one of the girls, who pleaded anonymity, narrated to The Punch how she initiated the arrest when her daughter spent the night outside.
According to her, “When I saw them, I knew that they must know about the whereabouts of my daughter who did not pass the night in my house.
“It was the first time my daughter, a Primary 3 pupil, would sleep out. I decided to lodge a complaint to the police because we have been hearing stories about these girls sleeping with one Alhaji for money,” the victim’s mother stated.

The PPRO, however, noted that the police were on the trail of the Alhaji, adding that the suspects were arrested by detectives attached to ‘A’ Division Police Station, Warri area of the state.

Ijaw youths: Prosecute Yunusa, and other collaborators in Emir of Kano’s palace for the abduction of Ese

Sanusi-Eze-Arase

The Ijaw Youths Council, IYC, has called for the prosecution of Yunusa Yellow and his collaborators in the palace of the Emir of Kano over their roles in the alleged abduction of Ese Oruru from Bayelsa State.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Eric Omare, on Tuesday, the group urged the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, to ensure that Yunusa is made to face the full wrath of the law.
According to Daily Post, Yunusa had on August 12, 2015 allegedly abducted Ese from Bayelsa State and eloped with her to Kano where he converted her to Islam and eventually married her.
The statement reads, “The IYC, therefore, insist that the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, must bring those who masterminded the kidnap of Miss Ese Oruru to justice in line with the Anti-kidnapping law of Bayelsa.
“This should include collaborators in the palace of the Emir of Kano.
“This is the only way we can put a stop to such criminal conduct, especially considering the worrying activities of herdsmen in different parts of the country.
“We commend the role of the Nigerian media in rescuing Ese Oruru from the hands of her abductors.
“The role the media played has once again demonstrated to the world the crucial role of the media in our nation’s development.
“The IYC notes the historical role of the Nigerian media in the fight against military dictatorship and we call on the media to continue to play its role as the fourth estate of the realm and the conscience of the Nigerian society.’’
