The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Adesola Moses, for allegedly raping a 19-year-old mentally-challenged girl.
According to reports, the suspect took advantage of the victim’s mental health and had anal sex with her.
Moses, who resides at Osenatuilo Street, Alagbado by AIT Road, reportedly raped the victim in her mother’s shop.
A family member disclosed to Vanguard that the victim’s mother, Muiynant Mustapha, left her daughter in her shop to attend a party, when the suspect sneaked into the shop, asked the girl to remove her clothes and then raped her.
“While the act was ongoing, a 10-year-old girl, Tunrayo, daughter of the landlord, who usually plays with the victim, saw them and ran out to alert people. By the time people got to the shop, the suspect had escaped,” the family member disclosed.
“In a bid to identify the suspect, the elders in the community gathered 12 young men in the area and Tunrayo was able to identify the suspect, who had changed his clothes to avoid recognition.”
The case was initially reported at Alagbado Division; however, it is currently being investigated at State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, in Panti area of the state.

Photo: Nigerian serial rapist jailed for 24 years in UK

22-year-old Oluwadamilare Baiyewu pictured above has been sentenced to 24 years imprisonment by a Woolwich Crown Court in the UK for raping a 17 year old girl while trying to attack another on December 2nd last year. Described as a ‘dangerous, calculating and predatory rapist’ who created the image he was the ‘pillar of the community’ by helping out at the church.

Baiyewu who resides in Fairlawn in Greenwich, first grabbed a 17-year-old girl at knife point on December 2nd, but she managed to break free and escaped.

A week later, in the same area of Binsey Walk, Thamesmead, he grabbed another victim, also 17, as she got off the bus at 7pm. He put a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her before marching her into a bin storage area under a walkway. He then raped her in a secluded area. He was tracked down after DNA on the semen found on the young lady was linked to him. He was arrested on December 16, and was placed on an identity parade where he was picked out by the victim whom he had attempted to rape.‎

He will serve a minimum of 16 years in prison and will then be on license for eight years .

Detective Constable Chris Hammond of the Sexual Offences,Exploitation and Child Abuse Command while speaking on his conviction said:

‘Oluwadamilare Baiyewu is a dangerous, calculating, predatory rapist. He volunteered at a local church, creating the image that he was a pillar of the community, which I believe was an attempt to mask his true nature as a sexual predator. I would like to praise his victims for having the strength to come forward to police and give their evidence in court. The streets of Thamesmead are now a safer place without the presence of Baiyewu. Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, Baiyewu refused to accept his guilt. He manipulated thelegal system to cause two trials to be adjourned which caused both victims further distress. I would like to thank the two victims in this case who maintained their commitment to the prosecution despite Baiyewu’s deliberate attempts to prolong proceedings. Thankfully their will to see Baiyewu pay for his crimes enabled the trial to proceed at the third attempt and Baiyewu was rightly convictedof all charges.".

Photo: Woman sentenced to death by hanging for killing her 8-year-old step-daughter

A woman and three of her accomplices, were on Thursday, January 21 found guilty of killing her eight year-old step-daughter and sentenced to death by hanging.
Elenah Nyambura (pictured at Milimani law courts, Kenya with her accomplice) was charged with committing the offence at Civil Servants Estate in Kariobangi, with Peris Njeri, Geoffrey Njuguna and Kenneth Muriithi.
The court heard that Nyambura murdered Sheilah Wanjiku to win back her estranged husband Peter Kamau. The four had confessed to killing Wanjiku but later objected to the admissions, saying they had been coerced and threatened into signing statements prepared in advance.

While passing the sentence, Justice Fred Ochieng said the fact Wanjiku was stabbed in her neck and as the wounds were penetrative, there was no doubt the attacker intended to either kill or cause grievous harm.
"It did not matter who dealt the killer blow as each of them played a role which contributed to the success of the heinous act. Elenah Nyambura conceived the idea to eliminate Wanjiku. She enlisted the help of her own brother, Geoffrey Njuguna whose role was to identify and recruit the killers. Peris Njeri would point out the house to the killers," Ochieng said.
The judge said the retracted confessions were very detailed and could only be provided by persons involved, hence concluding the accused acted in concert.
"I find each and every one of the four accused persons guilty of the murder of Sheila Wanjiku. They are therefore, hereby convicted for the offence of murder," he said.
In her confession, Nyambura said she felt her husband loved Wanjiku more than he loved her son and thought if the girl was killed, Kamau would return to her. Nyambura was also unhappy because Kamau had married their former employee who was Wanjiku's mother - Eunice Nyawira - and decided to get rid of them both.

But according to Nyawira, there was nothing to suggest animosity between them as Nyambura's son would visit on weekends.

The court heard that on the fateful day, the accused persons visited Nyawira's house and stabbed the housegirl and the child, but the help lived to testify in the case. Wanjiku was stabbed ten times; six on the right side of her neck and four times on the left.

A postmortem revealed the stab wounds severed blood vessels in her neck. She died of severe bleeding. Investigating officer Sergeant Catherine Kinoti said Njeri coordinated the planning and execution of the child because Nyambura could not leave her place of work.

Kinoti testified that Nyambura made Sh80,000 available to Njeri, which she then paid to the persons who killed Wanjiku. During cross-examination, Kamau said after arrest, Nyambura confessed to him that she had been involved in the killing.
She allegedly blamed the devil for persuading her to pay people to kill Wanjiku.

Police commissioner’s aide accused of flogging, raping lady

An aide to the Commissioner of Police, Railway Command, Lagos State, identified as Agu, has been arrested for allegedly raping and beating a lady until she fell into a coma.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened inside the policeman’s apartment in the Railway Police Barracks. It was learnt that 31-year-old Agu had tricked the victim, identified as Yeni, into the barracks. He was said to have had sex with her, which the victim submitted to.
Later at night, he allegedly woke her up for another round of sex, which Yeni refused. The duo were said to have struggled, but the suspect allegedly overpowered her. He was said to have assaulted and raped her. The victim reportedly passed out.
The police authorities were said to have arrested Agu, made him to face an orderly-room trial and dismissed him from the force. A police source told our correspondent that the incident happened on Sunday. It was learnt that the suspect, who was married with a kid, had separated from his wife.
According to a source, “He had a habit of sleeping with all kinds of women. His wife separated from him due to his infidelity.
“Last Sunday, he saw the lady on the road and spoke to her. She agreed to the friendship and he invited her to his apartment.
“We learnt that they had sex, though the lady said she was initially against it. After the sex, they both fell asleep, but the policeman woke her up for another round of sex and she refused.
“Agu hit her with some objects. He flogged her till she sustained serious injuries which made her fell into a coma.
“He still had his way with her. It was the following morning that the police authorities in the barracks were informed and he was arrested.”
The source, who claimed to have been in the room, said the floor was dotted with Yeni’s blood. It was learnt that while Agu was detained at the EBJ Police Area Command, the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, where she was resuscitated and treated.
Another police source said the Railway command conducted an orderly-room trial for the suspect and he was dismissed.
He said, “Some policemen followed him to his room and collected his uniform and other police property in his custody.
“He was then handed over to the police for prosecution.”
PUNCH Metro was told that investigations had been concluded and the suspect was about to be arraigned when the detectives got a call to cancel the arraignment.
A source said, “The detectives were done with investigations and he was to be taken to court when they were told to let go of the matter.
“As if that was not enough, he was released and he is back in the barracks.”
