Secondary school student, 19, who stabbed colleague, arraigned in court.

You would recall the incidence of a 19-year-old Senior Secondary School student of Gaskia College, Amukoko, Lagos, Saka Ahmed, who allegedly stabbed his school labour prefect, Saheed Jimoh, to death.

Ejo, as Saka is fondly called, was on November 5, arrested by policemen attached to Amukoko Division, in his hideout somewhere around the school’s vicinity, at about 6.40 pm. The 19 year-old on Friday appeared in an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

While in court, Ejo denied stabbing the deceased. According to him,
“I pushed Jimoh; I didn’t stab him. Jimoh fell on an iron rod, which pierced his chest.”
He also alleged that he and his friends on the said date had waited for the deceased after school hours to confront him for punishing him for coming late to school but he never showed up, only to be reported dead the day after. However, the accused was today arraigned on a one-count charge of manslaughter.
According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighodalo, the offence contravened Section 227 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Ejo, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Folarin Williams, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till January 18, for trial.
