Two suicide bombers killed at least 19 people and injured 50 others in a market in Meme, northern Cameroon, on Friday, February 19, military sources told Reuters. However, while AFP reported the identities of the suicide bombers to be males, Reuters claimed they were female bombers.
It was gathered that the two suicide bombers walked into the market and blew themselves up. According to one of the officials based in northern Cameroon, the number of dead and injured is subject to change.
There has so far been no official claim of responsibility for the attack, but officials pointed the finger at Nigeria-based Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram. Boko Haram began targeting Cameroonian territory in 2013, with more than 1,200 people killed in attacks, according to the Cameroon government and military sources.
The Nigerian-based jihadist group has killed at least 17,000 people and left more than 2.6 million others homeless since their six-year campaign began. This perhaps is why the US military now calls it the most lethal violent extremist group in the world.
