Two commercial sex workers in the Apapa area of Lagos state have been accused of beating up a policeman simply identified as Sergeant Usang.
Usang was said to have seen the ladies, 22-year-old Dominica Paul and Chioma Aneka, who resides at the Ajegunle area of Apapa, roaming the street at about midnight and confronted them. They couldn’t give a satisfactory answer when he asked them where they were they going. The police officer decided to take them to the station and that was when they pounced on him. They beat him up and tore his uniform.
The prosecutor, Inspector Tony Elibeh said they assaulted Sergeant Usang while he performing his duty. Dominica and Chioma were arraigned before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos yesterday, January 26.
They face a three-count charge of breach of peace, unlawful damage and assault. However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges against them but were granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum by Titus Abolarinwa, the Chief Magistrate.
The case was adjourned till February 24 for mention.
