A woman was reportedly beaten by his drunken husband who
also used a pair of scissors to stab her severally. The unnamed woman was sent
out of the house in the dead of the night by her husband after he had wounded
her in several parts of her body with the scissors.
The case was reported at the Igando Police Station; however the
police failed to treat the matter with urgency. They did not give her any form of
first aid treatment either, rather they demanded for money before attempting to
take the wounded and bleeding woman to a hospital.
The story was publicized by Linda Ikeji, who was contacted
by a family friend of the victim. According to the friend,
"We need the help of human right to intervene, the
case has been reported at Igando police station but I must say am disappointed
in them because they are just too sluggish to the situation.
Rather they are after the fee for placing report;
meanwhile the woman is busy bleeding, they left her unattended even to this
early hour of today the police station does not even have common first aid box
to treat her rather they asked her to go to hospital."
It is indeed appalling that law enforcement officers would
trivialize such an act and approach it with utter laxity. Such an act is
punishable under various laws such as the Protection against Domestic Violence
Law, 2007; the Domestic Violence Law of Lagos State and so many more. Sadly,
the agents of law enforcement are the same people that make the law less
effective.
