University students forced by armed robbers to have sex with one another

Read the sad story of a Ladoke Akintola University student who was forced by robbers to have sex with her colleague...
Within few minutes of settling down in a secluded place – off the campus – where Bimbola (not real name) agreed to narrate her ordeal to our correspondent last Monday, the dry white handkerchief she was holding became soaked with tears.
She tried to stop weeping for a while, but she couldn’t resist it, and the more her friend – who followed her to the meeting – tried to calm her down, the more she struggled to hold back her tears. What she passed through in August was painful, unimaginable and dehumanising. In fact, she might not be able to forget that night in her life.
Ever since the incident, everything about her has changed, according to her friend.
In the night of August 13, 2015 – around 12 midnight – she said she and her roommate had returned from a night reading class in preparation for their forthcoming exam in November, locked their room and were about to sleep when they heard their hostel mates jamming their doors, screaming and walking up the hostel stairs.
Before they knew what was happening, the men were at their door and expectedly, they forced the door open. “Come out now or we will kill you,” she recalled what the men told her and her roommate, and with fear and trembling, the girls did their bidding.
Three hefty fearful-looking men, clad in black polos and jeans, armed with guns, machetes and axes had stormed their hostel – located in the Under G Area of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State – and demanded that all the students, both male and female, should gather in one room.
While one of the hoodlums stayed with the students, pointing guns at them should they ‘misbehave,’ the other two locked the entrance to the hostel, ransacked all rooms one after the other, stole the students’ laptops, money, debit cards, tablets and mobile phones.
But even after stealing all their property, the robbers were not done. The next command they gave the students was what Bimbola has not yet got over with.
She narrated, “They raped some girls in our presence, but not only that, they asked us to start having sex with ourselves. They called from among us a guy and a girl and asked them to have sex with themselves, right in everybody’s presence. They threatened to use their weapons on us if we didn’t cooperate. Then they asked all of us to strip naked. Since it was in the night, most of us ladies already had only our night gowns on, while most of the guys were just putting on boxers. They said we should all be naked. When they were satisfied, they called another pair of students to do the same thing and told everybody to watch.

“He refused to give me money for ante-natal; so, I delivered my baby in the house.
‘’It is our first born that has being training the boy till now,” she told the court.

Brave female newscaster disarms robber
It was a good morning turned disastrous for a young man who tried to rob a lady of her valuables. The victim, a female newscaster with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), was said to have given the suspect, identified as Stanley, the fight of his life when he tried to rob her. She succeeded in collecting the robber’s locally-made pistol from him.
The suspect was handed over to policemen from Oba Police Station, Benin. During interrogation, Stanley mentioned names of his gang members. The police went after the gang and arrested five members. The leader of the gang is, however, still at large. The newscaster, who wished to remain anonymous, said she went to Benin from Lagos, for a wedding when the incident occurred.
She said she was cleaning her car, around 5:30am, when the suspect appeared with his gun and ordered her to give him money. She added: “I was cleaning the car when I heard someone ordering me not to make a noise. He had been hiding behind my car all this while.
He had a gun with him. He said I should take him inside the house and give him money. I begged him not to shoot, that I will give him the money. I also appealed to him that my sister, whom I lodged with, is heavily pregnant. I told him that my sister may go into force labour at the sight of the gun. He was not interested in my pleas. He held the gun to my waist. As we got close to the entrance of the sitting room, I summoned courage. “I screamed Jesus! I did not know what came over me, but I suddenly turned and grabbed the gun.
I struggled with him and turned the gun to his chest. He bit me. I bit him back. As we struggled, we reached where my car was parked. I screamed and started calling for help. My brother inlaw ran out. He attacked the robber and kicked him until he fell flat on his face.”
The shout attracted residents who rushed out and joined in wrestling the gun from the suspect. He was eventually beaten up mercilessly. The residents wanted to beat him to death, but others suggested they hand him over to the police. Recovered from Stanley were a locally-made gun, three cartridges, a wallet, a phone and a wristwatch. The seller of the gun has also been arrested. Police investigation revealed that Stanley is a commercial bus driver. But Stanley claimed he did not know why he took to robbery.
He said: “It was my gang members that gave me the gun. I targeted the house because I thought I could rob people living there successfully. I entered the compound by jumping the fence. I never expected that the lady would react by grabbing my gun. I planned the operation in my house. I entered the compound around 2am.”

PAPUA NEW GUINEA: Four women accused of sorcery burnt alive

A footage showing four women accused of witchcraft being stripped, tortured, tied and burnt alive by an angry mob in Papua New Guinea. The women were accused of sorcery after a young man fell ill in a village in Enga province in August. Media posts said the women were accused of “invisibly” taking the man’s heart, and then putting it back after they were tortured. In their attackers’ eyes this would also prove their guilt as sorcerers.
The footage showed the women being prodded and threatened with machetes while being questioned by a group of men.

According to the translation the women deny having done anything, and plead with their attackers.
The woman begs: "My son, stop it!” says one woman, laying on the ground.
“Talk out, where did you put it?” comes the reply. “Burn her with the wire.”
“I’ve got nothing to do with it,” says another woman. “I am a mother with five children.”

The attackers ignored their pleas and one was heard saying: "Don't just hit her, burn her." The video was initially shared on social media by students, who, according to one source, did it to show they approved of the torturers' actions.

Social media posts said the women were accused of “invisibly” taking the man’s heart, and then putting it back after they were tortured. In their attackers’ eyes this would also prove their guilt as sorcerers.
“There’s no real way they can prove themselves innocent,” one PNG source who has been involved in rescues of victims of sorcery-related violence, told Guardian Australia. “Once they’re suspected they’re basically done for, they’ll be tortured and maybe killed as well.”
He said he was aware of many people sharing the video on their smart phones, including high school students, and said it was not out of horror but rather approval for the actions being taken against the four accused women.
“There’s no logic going on in the matter … To try to talk logically, even to students, doesn’t really get you very far. They say, we have evidence and you ask what kind of evidence and they say it’s invisible evidence you can’t see it,” he said.
“It’s hard to argue against that.”

"The PNG Government has approved a National Action Plan against Sorcery Accusation Violence. Now it must be implemented effectively and as soon as possible by everyone concerned including police, the legal system, health, education, NGOs, community leaders and the churches."
The incident is just one of numerous acts of violence or death related to accusations of sorcery. Anger is increasing among Papua New Guineans as the attackers go unpunished.

A family source told our correspondent that they were yet to be shown the result of the autopsy, adding: “We are sure that the man abused our daughter, because at the FMC, blood was rushing out from her private part. She also sustained injuries on her legs.
The source, who said the police were already investigating the matter, also accused the police of trying to sweep the matter under the carpet owing to the influence of the commissioner in the state. He was allegedly bragging that he had the wherewithal to influence police investigation against the poor economic status of the victim’s family.
The immediate past governor of the state, Chief Theodore Ahamefule Orji, had through the then Commissioner for Information, Anthony Agbazuere, addressed a press conference where he disclosed that the state had placed the errant official on interdiction because of the heinous nature of the allegation against him, pending the determination of his case by the police and the courts, adding that Sec...see more
